The Solenoid System is designed for use in multi battery applications to protect the engine start battery from excessive loading whilst allowing auxiliary batteries to be charged.
When the starter is activated the ABM Solenoid System compares the voltage of both banks. If the engine start battery is lower than the auxiliary battery bank the ABM Solenoid System will activate allowing the auxiliary battery bank to aid in the vehicle starting. This feature will only engage if the auxiliary battery has sufficient power available to assist in starting.
Once the engine has started the ABM Solenoid monitors the battery system to determine if the batteries are being charged. When the engine or auxiliary batteries reach either 13.2v or 26.4v (depending on a 12v or 24v abm solenoid) signifying charging is taking place, the ABM Solenoid System will activate, joining the two battery banks. If the drain on the charging system by the auxiliary or main bank reduces the system voltage below either 12.4v or 24.8v, The ABM Solenoid will disconnect the battery banks from each other protecting the respective battery banks from excessive drain.
Voltage spikes generated by the coil of the solenoid are absorbed by protective circuitry built into the ABM System.
The ABM Solenoid System connects to the primary battery, auxiliary battery and ground. Absolutely no system modifications are necessary.
