Simpler Guardian Low Voltage Protection Device for Vehicle Tail-lifts

Updated Friday 13/03/2009 5:05pm

A new GUARDIAN, the 24TA5, has been developed with fleet operators in mind and the need to isolate a vehicle tail-lift, in the event of a low battery voltage situation jeopardising engine starting.

The present GUARDIAN range of Low Voltage Protection Devices already includes a tail-lift version, but this incorporates a visual warning prior to tail-lift isolation and the driver needs to reset the system, following isolation.

The new development provides a ‘fit and forget’ approach, where the tail-lift immobilises at a predetermined battery voltage and re-connects, automatically, when the engine is started. There are no lamps or switches on the dashboard and no driver involvement is necessary, other than to start the engine.

Another important feature is reflected in the installation time, which should take approximately one hour, a seventy percent reduction over the previous time for the GUARDIAN 24A. The latest boxed-in waterproof version, the GUARDIAN 24TA5B takes 10 minutes to install.

Typical ‘customised’ GUARDIAN system fitted to a tractor unit.

Because GUARDIAN systems are manufactured in the UK the operating parameters can be tailored to meet specific requirements, using programmable software, etc.
